How it works

Three steps, about two minutes.

1. Open your document

Choose a PDF, or a photo of a paper page. It opens in your browser.

2. Sign and fill it in

Draw or type your signature and initials, type into any blank, tick boxes, and add today's date.

3. Sign, download or print

Confirm it is you signing. The finished PDF gets a certificate page with your name, confirmed email, date and time.

Private by design

Most signing sites upload your document to their servers. This one does not.

It never leaves your device

Your document is opened, signed and saved by your own browser. It is not sent to Spotbookr or to anyone else.

What we do receive

Your confirmed email, the name you sign with, the time, and a fingerprint of the file: a code that identifies it without revealing a word of what is in it.

Close the page, it is gone

We keep no copy. Your signature and the signed file disappear from this page when you leave, so download it first.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no charge, no trial, no page limit beyond 200 pages per document, and no watermark on what you download.

Is a signature made here legal?

Yes, for most documents. In the United States, the federal ESIGN Act and state laws such as the UETA say a signature cannot be refused legal effect just because it is electronic, and no notary is needed for ordinary agreements. What matters is that you meant to sign, which is why you confirm that before finishing, and that the signature can be tied to you and to the document, which is what the certificate page and the online check are for. Some documents are excluded by law and need other formalities, including wills, certain family-law and court papers, and some official notices; other countries have their own rules. We confirm that you control your email address but do not otherwise check your identity, and this is not legal advice. If a document is important, ask whoever is receiving it what they accept.

Can I send a document to someone else to sign?

Not with this tool. It is for signing a document yourself. You can download your signed copy and send it on for the next person to sign the same way.

Which files can I use?

PDF files, and JPG or PNG pictures such as a phone photo of a page. For a Word document, save or export it as a PDF first. Password-protected PDFs need the password removed first.

How does someone check a document I signed?

They open the file at spotbookr.com/verify-document. It confirms whether the file is exactly as it was when you signed it, and shows your name, your confirmed email address, the time and the reference. Their copy is checked on their own device and is not uploaded. If the file has been changed in any way since signing, it will not match.

Why do you ask for my email?

Confirming your email address is what links the signature to you, and it appears on the signing certificate. We may also tell you about Spotbookr's products; every such email has an unsubscribe link.
